Yerevan, March 2. /Mediamax/. Armenian parliament elected today the new Human Rights Defender – Karen Andreasyan.
Mediamax reports that he was the only candidate, put forward by the MPs from the factions of the ruling coalition.
97 MPs participated in the elections of the new Ombudsman: 83 voted for, and 13 – against.
The newly-elected Ombudsman in his speech thanked the MPs, who supported his nomination, as well as those, who were against his election, “since “their stance will allow improving the level of functioning of the Human Rights Defender’s office”.
Karen Andreasyan took an oath to be adherent to the law and the Constitution of Armenia, protect human rights and freedoms, impartially and fairly fulfill his duties.
