Yerevan/Mediamax/. "Ambulance” reform program in Armenia should be implemented by 2014.

Director of “Ambulance” service of Yerevan Taguhi Stepanyan said in an interview to Mediamax that the program of reforms launched in 2010.

One of the main components of the program was the recent replenishment of the vehicle fleet by 88 “Ambulance” vehicles, provided by the government of China. The new vehicles are equipped with modern devices, in particular, with an electrocardiograph and a defibrillator.

“The vehicles fully meet our requirements, the equipment includes everything that a doctor needs to render first medical aid”, Taguhi Stepanyan said.

The capital city’s “Ambulance” service will receive 35 out of 88 vehicles, and the remaining ones will be distributed among the regions of Armenia. Before the replenishment, the capital city’s “Ambulance” service had 33 vehicles, which were not in their best condition. According to the international practice, the “Ambulance” vehicles cannot be used more than 6 years. Latest replenishment of the vehicle fleet was implemented in 2005 with “Sobol” cars.

“The arrival of new vehicles is a real revolution for our sphere. Due to the new transport means and equipment, we will be able to strongly improve the quality of services”, Taguhi Stepanyan said in an interview to Mediamax.

Within the framework of the reforms, communication means are also upgraded: during transportation, the “Ambulance” doctor will be able to operatively contact any hospital. Besides, “Ambulance” cars are equipped with GPS navigation, due to which control over their movement will be realized.

“Ambulance” doctors, nurses and drivers have undergone the necessary training. According to the new requirements, the driver should be able to render first medical aid. According to Taguhi Stepanyan, “the doctor, the nurse and the driver should be working as a single solid team”.
