Pashinyan: Turkey cannot be a mediator in Karabakh conflict

Yerevan /Mediamax/. Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan has stated in an interview with French newspaper Le Figaro that Armenia has evidence of Turkey’s military assistance to Azerbaijan.

“The international community, particularly the United States, should know that the U.S-made F-16 fighters are used today to target Armenians.

There is evidence that the Turkish military leadership is directly involved in the attacks. Ankara has sent carriers, ammunition, and military advisers to Baku. We know that Turkey has trained and relocated thousands of mercenaries from the territories it occupies in northern Syria. These mercenaries and terrorists are fighting against the Armenians,” said Nikol Pashinyan.

The Prime Minister has underlined that Turkey is undoubtedly responsible for the latest escalation.

“Ankara is obviously the decision maker in key matters of the situation. Turkey’s goal is to upset the balance of power in its favor, as it pursues the dream of creating a sultanate-like empire and embarks on a path that could set the region ablaze,” said Nikol Pashinyan.

The Prime Minister has stressed that Turkey and Azerbaijan should be the ones to cease fire as “they are the attacking side and they are killing Armenians as we speak.”

“Nagorno-Karabakh cannot lay down the arms – that will lead to genocide. The population there is facing an existential threat. At this stage, there are no signs that the opposing side will stop attacking. I am not even sure that Azerbaijan controls the terrorists fighting side by side with its troops,” Pashinyan noted.

Touching on the negotiations, the Armenian Prime Minister noted that the OSCE Minsk Group is the only format for the peace talks and Turkey cannot be a mediator in the process because of its biased and hostile attitude.
