Yerevan /Mediamax/. The Azerbaijani parliament has approved today "Shushi Declaration on Allied Relations with Turkey.”

The document was signed on June 15, 2021 by the presidents of Azerbaijan and Turkey Ilham Aliyev and Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The declaration, in particular, provides for the provision of mutual assistance by Baku and Ankara “in accordance with the UN Charter in the event of threats or aggression from a third state or states against the independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, inviolability or security of internationally recognized borders” of one of the parties.

“After the volume and form of this assistance is determined through urgent discussions, a decision will be made to ensure defense needs for joint measures and organization of coordinated activities of the power and command structures of the armed forces,” the declaration reads.

In addition, one of the points of the document envisages that Azerbaijan and Turkey will continue joint efforts to modernize the armed forces of the two countries.

According to TASS, Samad Seyidov, the head of the parliamentary committee on international relations and inter-parliamentary relations, said today that the declaration should be regarded as “fundamental document aimed at protecting the new realities that have arisen in the region.”
