Results of Pashinyan, Aliyev, Michel meeting unveiled

Yerevan /Mediamax/. The trilateral meeting of the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, the President of the European Council Charles Michel and the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev took place in Brussels on December 14.

Armenian government’s press service issued a statement on the results of the meeting which reads:

 

“The course of implementation of November 9, 2020, January 11, 2021, as well as November 26 trilateral statements were discussed.

 

Prime Minister Pashinyan attached importance to the full implementation of the above-mentioned statements, in particular, emphasizing the need for an immediate solution to humanitarian problems, ensuring the return of prisoners of war, hostages and other detained civilians. Reference was made to the work aimed at opening the regional communications.

 

Armenian Prime Minister and Azerbaijani President reaffirmed the agreement on reopening the railway. According to it, the railway will operate in accordance with internationally accepted border and customs rules, on a reciprocal basis, under the sovereignty and jurisdiction of the countries. Armenia will have access to the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Russian Federation by rail.

 

Implementation of concrete steps to reduce tension in the region was emphasized.

 

The parties also touched upon the possible steps aimed at demarcation and delimitation between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as the establishment of mutual trust.

 

The parties agreed to continue contacts.
