Yerevan /Mediamax/. A Council of Europe contact visit on the Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (Istanbul Convention) will take place in Armenia from 31 October to 1 November.
The delegation from the Council of Europe will be composed of Ms Marceline Naudi, President of the Group of Experts on Action against Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (GREVIO), Ms Veronika Bílková, Vice-president of the Council of Europe constitutional law body, the Venice Commission, Ms Dubravka Filipovski, Member of the Parliament of Serbia and also Member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe’s (PACE) Network Women Free from Violence, and representatives of the Council of Europe’s Secretariat.
“The delegation will attend several meetings to raise awareness on the Istanbul Convention and to clarify its provisions and objectives”, CoE press office informs.
The delegation will meet the members of the Standing Committee on the Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs, and of the Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, Ministers of Labour and Social Affairs, the Minister of Justice, and the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport, representatives
of the police and civil society organisations.
“This contact visit follows the adoption of a Venice Commission’s opinion on the implications of the ratification of the Istanbul Convention which clarified that no provisions of the Istanbul Convention can be considered contradictory to the Constitution of Armenia”, CoE press office notes.
