Yerevan /Mediamax/. Religious life in Dadivank and security of border monasteries became possible thanks to the efforts of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Patriarch Kirill of Moscow.
Armenian Catholicos Karekin II has made this remark today during the round-table meeting with Armenia and Russia representatives, dedicated to the centennial of the Russian-Turkish agreement signed in 1921.
He has expressed appreciation of Russian leadership for stopping the hostilities and for the efforts aimed at restoring peace in the region.
Karekin II has touched on cases of erasure of Armenian identity as well as destruction and desecration of Armenian historical and religious sites in the captured and handed-over territories in Artsakh, expressing hope that the international community will give proper assessment for these violations.
On 14 November 2020, the Kremlin’s press service said that Vladimir Putin drew Ilham Aliyev’s attention to the presence of Christian churches and monasteries in the territories returned to Azerbaijan and stressed the importance of protecting these religious sites and their normal operation. “Aliyev said Azerbaijan would act on that principle,” the Kremlin’s press service said.
