Yerevan /Mediamax/. Minister of Health of Armenia Arsen Torosyan has stated today that for the past few days, coronavirus patients did not have to wait for vacant beds to be hospitalized.

“We have also registered a decrease in the number of coronavirus patients who should be transferred to the hospitals that treat only COVID-19 cases. As of 09:00 today, we had 13 such cases. It means that all citizens in need of medical care are getting it,” said Torosyan.

According to him, the healthcare system is still working at full capacity.

“We expect more expansion works in hospitals in the coming weeks. The situation is stable, but critical, there are neither negative nor substantially positive developments. Intensive care units will be expanded in Surb Grigor Lusavorich and Erebuni medical centers and the Mikaelyan Institute of Surgery. I visited the intensive care unit in Erebuni Medical Center yesterday, and I can say it will be expanded in a week,” said Arsen Torosyan.

He has added that the process cannot be done in the other two institutions so quickly and the construction is still underway.

“The initial date of completion is mid-August to early September. If we consider that the world will experience another surge of cases in the fall, the expansion is exactly what we need to do,” noted Torosyan.
