Yerevan /Mediamax/. Presidents of Azerbaijan and Russia Ilham Aliyev and Vladimir Putin, respectively, have discussed today the situation on the border between the two countries, said the press service of Ilham Aliyev.

“President Aliyev has called President Putin on June 18 and expressed his regret that he will not be able to attend the Victory Parade in Moscow on June 24 because of the quarantine in Azerbaijan, although his participation in the event was planned initially. President Putin accepted Ilham Aliyev’s decision with understanding,” explained the press service.

Azerbaijan will be represented by 75 servicemen at the event. The delegation will be headed by the Minister of Defense.

Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan has confirmed he will attend the parade.

During the on-the-phone conversation, Presidents Aliyev and Putin have exchanged opinions about the situation on the Azerbaijani-Russian border.

“Ilham Aliyev has stated after the conversation with the Russian President on May 18, around 700 people returned to Azerbaijan through Samur checkpoint. In total, around 1000 of Azerbaijani citizens returned from Russia by land and by air,” added the press service of Ilham Aliyev.

Aliyev and Putin have agreed to give additional instructions to relevant state bodies in order to settle the situation on the border.

The official website of the Kremlin has published a more laconic statement about the two leaders’ conversation. It reads:

“The parties have discussed the matters relating to further development of bilateral relations. They have also touched on the coronavirus pandemic and the efforts against the virus.”
