Yerevan /Mediamax/. Israeli President Reuven Rivlin visited the Armenian Patriarchate in Jerusalem on May 9 on the occasion of Easter to congratulate all Christian clergymen of Jerusalem.
According to the Patriarchate, the Armenian Patriarch of Jerusalem, Archbishop Nourhan Manougian greeted the Israeli President and all present in his speech, appreciating the great contribution of President Rivlin to the process of the Armenian Genocide recognition in Israel.
“The Nazi regime successully massacred Jews, because the whole world remained silent and uninvolved towards the massacre of an entire nation in the years of the Armenian Genocide. We hope that you will continue to raise the issue of the Armenian Genocide recognition in Israel during your presidency,” said Archbishop Nourhan Manougian.
The Israeli President congratulated the Christian communities of the country and said that protection of religious freedom is a duty for Israel.
“The Armenians were massacred in 1915. My parents remember thousands of Armenian migrants finding asylum at the Armenian Church. No one in Israel denies that an entire nation was massacred. Today I will pray for the repose of the victims’ soul with you at the Armenian Patriarchate in Jerusalem,” said the Israeli President, concluding his speech.
