Yerevan /Mediamax/. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated today that he is ready to sign a peace agreement with Armenia, and the fact that Yerevan is not ready for it may be a "big mistake”.

“I have repeatedly stated that we are ready to sign a peace agreement with Armenia, that is, we are ready to start this work. But there is no official response from Armenia. We receive information through unofficial channels that Armenia is not ready for this. I think it could be another big mistake. The parties must recognize each other’s territorial integrity, recognize the borders, and start the delimitation works. International organizations are also now giving positive signals on delimitation. If Armenia doesn’t want this, then it is their business. But Armenia needs to think carefully, otherwise it will be too late,” the President of Azerbaijan said.

Aliyev noted that on July 7 he signed a decree on the creation of the Karabakh economic region, which includes all regions of Karabakh.

“The economic region of East Zangezur has also been created. Now there is hysteria about this in Armenia. This is not necessary, since Eastern Zangezur is our historical land, as well as Western Zangezur. We cannot forget history. Let them open historical documents, maps and see when the Soviet government took Zangezur from Azerbaijan and handed it over to Armenia. It happened 101 years ago. We are telling the truth, all of Zangezur - Eastern and Western - are our lands. Now they are saying in Armenia that Ilham Aliyev is making territorial claims. Yes, Western Zangezur is the land of our ancestors. I said that we will return there. I said it 10 years ago. This is the land of our ancestors, we must return there, we will return and we are returning. Nobody can stop us. We will definitely return, as there is no other way,” the President of Azerbaijan said.
