Yerevan /Mediamax/. Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan presented the first draft concept of Constitutional Reforms today.

Professional Committee on Constitutional Reforms at the President’s Office and President of Constitutional Court Gagik Harutyunyan the main provisions of the Concept and ways of addressing the issues contained in it noting that in the initial phase, they didn’t aim to shape joint and final positions on all the issues.

 

The President noted that particular issues should be discussed with the representatives of the field and political forces. Touching upon the form of government of the country, Serzh Sargsyan said that “the current model of government is the more acceptable for our country in the current development stage”.

 

“I officially state that I won’t ever run for President of Armenia. If it’s decided to choose a way which I don’t agree with - I mean parliamentary form of government- as a result of final discussions, I won’t have claims for the post of the Prime Minister either”, said Serzh Sargsyan noting that one person shouldn’t run for the presidency more than 2 times.

 

The President stated that no matter what constitutional concepts are adopted, the Republican Party of Armenia he leads will continue pursuing its decisive and weighty role by those rules in Armenia.

 

Serzh Sargsyan gave his consent to the proposal to extend the dates of public discussions on the Concept noting that as an author of the document, the Committee itself should undertake the responsibility of proper holding and summing up the results of the discussions.
