Yerevan /Mediamax/. Armenian President Armen Sarkissian has addressed a letter to Peter Maurer, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), noting that he expects ICRC to assist in the return of Armenian POWs and civilians held by Azerbaijan.
In particular, President Sarkissian stressed in the letter:
“Addressing the current humanitarian situation in Artsakh is a priority, which requires urgent attention from the international community. The international community, all countries of the OSCE Minsk Group, international organizations, and individuals must adequately assess the actions of Azerbaijan.
It is extremely important that the exchange of all prisoners of war and civilians be carried out using the principle of “all for all”, which Azerbaijan ignores.
In gross violation of human rights and international humanitarian law, Azerbaijan conceals the true number of Armenian POWs and other detainees and continues to refuse and hinder the return of captive civilians and prisoners of war.”
