Yerevan /Mediamax/. Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan has signed the Statement on confirmation of Onik Gasparyan’s dismissal from the position of Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces.

The statement reads:

“On the basis of the Armenian Constitution and the Law on army service and the status of the military, on 25 February 2021, the Prime Minister referred to the President the suggestion to relieve Onik Gasparyan from his duties as Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces, with the corresponding decree attached.

On 27 February 2021, the Staff of the Prime Minister received the President’s objections to the mentioned decree.

The Prime Minister did not accept the President’s objections, and on 28 February 2021, the note with relevant substantiation was sent to the President.

As the President did not sign the decree submitted by the Prime Minister and did not apply to the Constitutional Court within the period indicated in Paragraph 3 of Article 35.1 of the Law on army service and the status of the military, Onik Gasparyan is considered relieved of his duties as Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces starting from 10 March 2021, based on Paragraph 3 of Article 139 of the Constitution as well as Paragraph 6 of Article 35.1 and Paragraph 3 of Article 40 of the Law on army service and the status of the military.”
