Yerevan /Mediamax/. Foreign Minister of Armenia Ara Aivazian today has stated that there is a new situation in South Caucasus, which results from the use of force by Azerbaijan and with direct involvement of Turkey.

He has made that remark at the meeting with Wendy Morton, the UK Minister for European Neighborhood and the Americas of Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, who arrived in Yerevan on February 16.

According to Aivazian, the situation does not solve the conflict. “Only through negotiated political settlement it will be possible to address the causes and consequences of the war, to establish stability, peace and reconciliation in the region of the South Caucasus,” he said.

“The essence of the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is based on the right of the people of Artsakh to self-determination. Azerbaijan’s attempt to suppress this right through violence, which was accompanied by war crimes, is not only a violation of human rights but also a significant and continuous threat to the regional security,” said Aivazian.

The Foreign Minister has also drawn Wendy Morton’s attention to Azerbaijan’s hostage-taking policy toward Armenian prisoners of war, civilians, including women. He has noted that “this is a challenge to all those who genuinely and consistently defend human right in international arena.”
