Yerevan /Mediamax/. Russian political analysts commented on the prospects of of start of negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, TASS reports.

Fyodor Lukyanov, Research Director of the Valdai Discussion Club, said that Baku puts forward an obviously impossible precondition saying that it will stop hostilities if Armenian forces leave the region.

“So far, Azerbaijan seems to believe that they can still achieve something else by military means. When they arrive at the conclusion that nothing can be achieved by military means, only then they will start negotiations,” the analyst stressed.

According the head of the Caucasus Department of the Institute of CIS Countries, military expert Vladimir Yevseyev, “Azerbaijan has not achieved a single goal.”

“Therefore, Azerbaijan may try to somehow change the balance on the frontline. But it is not entirely clear why,” the expert noted.

He went on adding that some types of weapons have not been used by the parties yet.

“I am afraid that Azerbaijan may start using them in order to change the frontline, but this will lead to retaliation from Armenia, which, besides Iskander, has other types of missile systems as well,” Yevseev concluded.
