Yerevan /Mediamax/. Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev linked the publication of "Pandora’s documents” with the victory of his country in the second Karabakh war.

According to “Pandora’s documents” published in early October, the family of Azerbaijan’s president in recent years has sold property in the UK worth more than £400m.

“I am a president for 18 years. I used to be a successful entrepreneur. I was not a poor man when I was elected president. After becoming a president, I was no longer directly involved in business and handed it over to my family. You will probably understand that unlike other people in the West who left their entire legacy to cats and dogs, in Italy and Azerbaijan we honor family values. This is why I handed my business to my children. They continue it,” Azerbaijani media cited Aliyev as saying in the interview to Italian La Repubblica newspaper.

He said his children mostly invest in Azerbaijan.

“They have investments outside Azerbaijan as well. Their entire business activity is transparent and passes international audit, and no one can claim that there is something wrong here,” Aliyev stated.

He said that the “mentioned publication and the noise over it is another defamation campaign against Azerbaijan.”

“Of course, the victory in the second war in Karabakh was a surprise for many countries. They did not like it. They want to see Azerbaijan a weak, dependent, occupied country which always asked for help in the settlement of the conflict. But now, when Azerbaijan won Armenia, the circles in the West, closely linked with Armenia, have again become very active. We knew about the planned defamation campaign against Azerbaijan and we expected it,” Aliyev said.
