Yerevan /Mediamax/. "Regardless of all sorts of opinions, the democratic Armenia has always had and will have a good, reliable friend in Belarus,” Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said at the meeting with his Armenian counterpart Armen Sarkissian in Minsk.

“I am glad to see you in Belarus. Your visit to Minsk and participation in the meeting [Core Group meeting of Munich Security Conference – Mediamax] demonstrates that this issue is not just a concern for Armenia, but a highly important matter for the Armenian people,” said Lukashenko.

He emphasized that Belarus is consistent in upholding its commitments in the framework of cooperation with Armenia in EAEU and CSTO.

“You know our capacities, we know yours. Therefore, we will consider any offer from Armenia in a very short time and make the decision promptly. I know you are going through difficult democratic changes, it is a fact, so it is very important for me to be informed about it by my friend and colleague,” said the Belarusian President.

He noted it is also important for Belarus to follow the developments in Armenia and added: “For us, you are the person who is objective, realistic and willing to support relations with Belarus, and that attitude is mutual.”

Armen Sarkissian thanked Lukashenko for the support he provided during the dramatic two months in spring 2018.

“As a president and as a person, I will never forget the support I received from you in April and May. Your calls were not simply a diplomatic or political gesture, they were calls from a friend who wasn’t just curious, but who felt both glad and concerned and who wanted to help,” said Sarkissian.
