Yerevan /Mediamax/. Armenia’s Human Rights Defender (Ombudsman) Arman Tatoyan has spoken to the press today about the border-related problems, which arose in Syunik region after the war, and suggested creating a security zone.

The Ombudsman has noted that the normal life of the residents of border communities in Armenia has been disrupted completely.

“Given the presence of the Azerbaijani military, as well as the state policy and political goals of that country, a demilitarized security zone with a distance of at least 5-7 kilometers should be established,” said Arman Tatoyan.

He has noted that this estimate is based on the evidence of what weapons the Azerbaijani Armed Forces continue to fire.

“I have presented these issues to international bodies. I address this demand to the international community, because this problem fundamentally contradicts everything they have created over the years – the guidelines, conventions, all requirements for human rights protection are becoming irrelevant,” said the Ombudsman.
