Yerevan /Mediamax/. "I sincerely believe the recognition of the Armenian Genocide first of all emanates from the interests of the Turkish state and society as it is hard to live for years with the "skeleton in the cupboard.””

Chief of Staff of the President, Coordinator of the Events Dedicated to the Armenian Genocide Centennial Vigen Sargsyan stated it at the “At the Foot of Mount Ararat” international media conference that started in Yerevan today.

According to him, certain progress towards the Armenian recognition has been observed in the Turkish society in the recent years, but it’s also irrefutable that Turkey continues to spend huge means at state level, which are aimed at the Armenian Genocide denial.

“One such recent step was the decision to mark the Battle of Gallipoli on international level on April 24, while this battle neither started, nor ended on that day. Countries that will take part in Gallipoli events on that day either do not realize Turkey’s trap, or they find political considerations more important than the historic truth,” noted Vigen Sargsyan.

According to him, Turkey continues its hostile policy towards Armenia and the closed Armenian-Turkish border “is the last fragment of the iron curtain, which has not crashed but continues to divide two neighboring countries.”

“It aims to make Armenia more pliant in case of Nagorno Karabakh. However, it has no relation with the Armenian-Turkish reconciliation. Turkey is conducting a hostile policy in international organizations as well and overtly defends Azerbaijan’s anti-Armenians initiatives,” said Vigen Sargsyan.
