Yerevan /Mediamax/. Chairman of ''Javakhq'' patriotic union, MP from RPA Shirak Torosyan stated today that strengthening of the Armenian language status in Javakhq ''is in both Armenia's and Georgia's interests''.
Shirak Torosyan again expressed his concern about the reduction of Armenian language lessons in the schools of Javakhetia and increase in Georgian language lessons at the expense of Armenian ones, Mediamax reports.
''We are not against increase in Georgian language lessons but we think that it shouldn't be done at the expense of the Armenian language. It's not acceptable for the Armenians of Javakhetia'', noted Torosyan.
The leader of the patriotic union noted that the authorities of the two countries should find an immediate solution to this issue.
Commenting on the overall situation in Samtskhe-Javakhetia, the MP said that before the Georgian parliamentary elections scheduled for autumn, ''there are political tensions and persecutions of opposition representatives'' in Javakhq.
According to Torosyan, it will only aggravate the atmosphere of distrust in Javakhq.
