Yerevan /Mediamax/. His Holiness Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II met in Vatican on October 6 with His Holiness Pope Francis.

“During the conversation the Catholicos referred to the disastrous consequences of 44-day war, the current challenges Armenia and Artsakh are facing. He particularly stressed the issue of return of prisoners of war and those captured in post-war period. His Holiness also expressed gratitude to His Holiness Pope Francis for the support to the Armenian people and Armenia during the war,” the Holy See reported.

The delegation led by Karekin II also met with the Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin. During the meeting the parties referred to the situation created in the region after the war. In particular, they touched upon the issues on security of the people of Artsakh, encroachments on the sovereign territory of Armenia as well as the issues on preservation of the Armenian spiritual-cultural heritage in the territories which passed under Azerbaijan’s control.
