Armenia to vaccine citizens over 55 with AstraZeneca

Yerevan /Mediamax/. Health Minister of Armenia Anahit Avanesyan today has announced that shots of AstraZeneca vaccine will be given to citizens 55 years old and older, and Sputnik V shots will be given citizens aged 18 to 55.

She has noted that changes have been made in the instructions on use of AstraZeneca.

 

“For additional safety, we established an age threshold. We have also decided that only citizens over 55 years old, who are in high-risk groups: medical workers, people with chronic conditions, residents and staff of care homes, people 65 years old and older,” said Avanesyan.

 

As for Sputnik B, she has said that there is no age limit, but the imported batch is not large, so shots will be given to medical workers aged 18-54, people under the age of 55 with chronic illnesses, as well as residents and staff of care homes under the age of 55.

 

“If we get another batch of Sputnik V, we will vaccinate citizens aged 55 and older with it,” she said.

 

Anahit Avanesyan has stated that vaccination will start on April 13 in the capital and on April 14 in the regions.

 

She has added that the procurement of American vaccine Novavax is nearing the end. The health Ministry has a preliminary agreement with the Chinese government as well and Armenia will receive a batch of the vaccine as donation.
