Yerevan /Mediamax/. Gazprom considers the option of organizing exchange gas supplies with Iran.

Gazprom CEO Aleksey Miller held negotiations with Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Georgia Kakha Kaladze in Luxembourg on December 8, Interfax reports.

Answering the question whether the gas supplies to Armenia from Iran was touched upon while discussing the transit through Georgia, he said to journalists: “Yes, we talked about it and together with our Iranian colleagues, we are currently working at  issues of exchange operations”.

Mediamax recalls that former PM of Georgia, founder of ruling Georgian Dream Party Bidzina Ivanishvili said on November 11 that “Georgia will likely purchase natural gas from Iran”. “It will be very interesting if the Iranian gas is also supplied to Georgia and I think it is very likely to happen”, said Ivanishvili.

Commenting upon Mediamax’s request on the information, Director of Armenian Center for Society Research Foundation Sevak Sarukhanyan assumed that Georgia would purchase “virtual” Iranian gas.

“The scheme may be as follows: Georgia will sign a contract with Iran on gas purchase and will leave “the Iranian gas” to Russia out of the portion supplied to Armenia. In return, Iran will supply the same gas amount to Iran-Armenia pipeline and the gas will be sold in Armenia as the Russian one. And the Russian gas will respectively be sold in Georgia as the Iranian one”, said Sevak Sarukhanyan.
