Yerevan /Mediamax/. As of late 2014, the number of people of concern in Armenia - refugees, people in refugee-like situations, stateless people and asylum-seekers- made 17 922.
The “World at War: Global Trends - 2014” world report published today by the UN’s High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) reads this.
According to the UN data, Armenia has 3190 refugees and 14 450 people in refugee-like situations, ethnic Armenians migrated from Syria being the overwhelming majority. According to the report, then number of stateless people and asylum-seekers in Armenia makes respectively 206 and 71.
The authors of the report note that as of late 2014, due to the wars, conflicts, violations and human rights violations in the world, the total number of refugees and displaced people amounted to 59.5mln against last year’s 51.2mln. It means that every 122nd person in the world is either a refugee or a displaced person.
The report notes that in 2014, Turkey has become the country which received the largest number of refugees (1.59mln). Then comes Pakistan (1.51mln), Lebanon (1.15mln), Iran (982thousand), Ethiopia (659,5 thousand) and Jordan (654.1thousand).
The largest number of people left Syria (3.8mln), Afghanistan (2.5mln) and Somali (1.1mln). As for the returned refugees, the number amounts to 126.8 thousand whihc is the lowest index over the past 31 years.
“It’s horrible that, on the one hand, the impunity of conflict provokers is aggravating, on the other- the international community’s inability to join efforts toward stopping wars and building and maintaining peace is becoming more obvious”, said the UN High Commissioner for Refugees Antonia Gutteres.
