Yerevan/Mediamax/. Azerbaijan backs the establishment of an independent Palestinian State with the capital in East Jerusalem.
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said this June 28 following his talks with the head of the Palestinian Administration, Mahmud Abbas, Mediamax reports quoting Trend.
“Azerbaijan supports the State of Palestine in all international organizations. During all discussions in the Organization of Islamic Conference, within the United Nations Azerbaijan stands and will stand by Palestine. We believe that an independent, sovereign Palestinian State with the capital in East Jerusalem should be established in the nearest future. This is our position which we uphold in all international organizations. On the one hand it is our brotherly duty. On the other one, this position has been formed on the basis of the international law,” Ilham Aliyev said.
In his turn, Mahmud Abbas said Palestine and Azerbaijan have similar problems.
“Your lands are also under occupation. Both you and we have refugees. There are four United Nations resolutions. All these UN resolutions urge for peace. There are over 15 UN resolutions on Palestine. These resolutions urge for peace too. We are patiently waiting for all these problems to be resolved peacefully,” said Mahmud Abbas.
