Constitutional Court is authorized to recognize “insurmountable obstacle”, Armenian CEC Chief says

Yerevan/Mediamax/. Chairman of the Central Election Commission of Armenia Tigran Mukuchyan said today that under N52 clause of Armenian Constitution and N98 clause of Electoral Code, the election day may be put off for 2 weeks in case a presidential candidate faces an "insurmountable obstacle”.

Touching upon the incident with Paruyr Hayrikyan today, Tigran Mukuchyan added that in case the obstacles remain within 2 weeks, the elections will take place in 40 days, Mediamax reports.

 

“The Constitutional Court is authorized to recognize an insurmountable obstacle”, he said noting that only the presidential candidate or his proxy may file a request to the Constitutional Court to postpone the elections.

 

4 days after the request is sent, the Constitutional Court should make a decision on holding of the elections.

 

Tigran Mukuchyan called the incident happened to Paruyr Hayrikyan "mean deed" expressing the hope that those responsible for it will get their deserved punishment.
