Yerevan /Mediamax/. Former President of Armenia Levon Ter-Petrosyan today has stated that "the main and sole reason of current potentially explosive situation is the unhealthy hold on power of the person, who fully failed the mission to govern the nation and doomed our people to a humiliating defeat.”

Ilur.am has published the following remarks by Ter-Petrosyan today:

“I once again appreciate the army’s restraint under the pressure from the opposition to drag it into political affairs, and I welcome the Chief of General Staff’s decision to settle the matter of his dismissal through legal processes.

I would like to stress that the main and sole reason of current potentially explosive situation is the unhealthy hold on power of the person, who fully failed the mission to govern the nation and doomed our people to a humiliating defeat. This is fraught with new and more painful threats for our country.

That being said, I have to repeat yet again that power can be received only through constitutional means. The pre-condition for that is a compromise between the government and the opposition, which must be reached urgently. I believe it is still possible, because despite tough words, the opposition has not yet crossed a line. If Armenia wavers from the constitutional path, it will never have an opportunity to be a normal, dignified state.

Resolution of current situation is a matter of the perspective, not the moment and not so much the present.”
