Yerevan /Mediamax/. Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar today has described as "unconvincing and insincere” the calls of the OSCE Minsk Group for a ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh.

“The calls for a ceasefire coming from the countries, which have been unable to find a fair solution to the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh for years, are neither convincing nor sincere. Turkey will support fraternal Azerbaijan to the last in the just struggle for the liberation of its native lands,” TASS reports Akar’s remarks, citing Turkish news agency Anadolu.

TASS writes that it is “Ankara’s first official response after the joint statement of the Presidents of Russia, USA and France Vladimir Putin, Donald Trump and Emmanuel Macron on the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh.”

However, Turkish President Recep Erdogan made a statement similar to Akar’s on October 1, addressing the Turkish parliament.

A few hours after Erdogan’s remarks, Russian MFA issued a statement following the phone conversation between Russian and Turkish FMs, which said in particular:

“The escalation of tensions around Nagorno-Karabakh has been thoroughly discussed. The ministers expressed serious concern over the ongoing military confrontation, and spoke for an immediate cessation of hostilities.

The parties emphasized the inadmissibility of the involvement of militants of illegal armed formations from other regions in the conflict. The demand for extremely balanced steps in terms of providing political and diplomatic assistance to Baku and Yerevan has been stressed.”
