Haaretz: Turkey and Israel target Iran through Karabakh conflict

Yerevan /Mediamax/. Covering the topic of the war in Artsakh, Israeli newspaper Haaretz writes that "for the first time in a very long time, Israel seems to be on the same side as Turkey.”

“Azerbaijani cargo planes landing at Israeli air bases in Negev are a relatively common sight, testifying to large-scale military deals between the two countries. However, the frequency and timing of the cargo planes’ arrival indicate that the Azerbaijani armed forces are strengthening and preparing for the next battle for Nagorno-Karabakh,” Haaretz writes.

“Lucrative arms deals make just one aspect of this situation. Israel considers Azerbaijan a strategic ally, as this kleptocracy on the Caspian Sea coast is the oil source of Israel, and because of its position, Azerbaijan serves as an extremely useful “back door” to neighboring Iran - for intelligence and other secret purposes,” the article says.

“Iran is one of Armenia’s main allies in the Karabakh conflict, which gives Israel the opportunity to arrange a dialogue with Erdogan’s Turkey through informal channels and to deepen the divide between Ankara and Tehran,” Haaretz concludes.
