Yerevan /Mediamax/. In a telephone conversation, Sergey Lavrov and Mevlut Cavusoglu "reaffirmed readiness for close coordination of actions of Russia and Turkey aimed at the stabilization of the situation for bringing the settlement of the Karabakh conflict back to peaceful negotiations,” the statement issued by the Russian Foreign Ministry following the conversation.

“The escalation of tensions around Nagorno-Karabakh has been thoroughly discussed. The ministers expressed serious concern over the ongoing military confrontation, and spoke for an immediate cessation of hostilities. The parties emphasized the inadmissibility of the involvement of militants of illegal armed formations from other regions in the conflict. The demand for extremely balanced steps in terms of providing political and diplomatic assistance to Baku and Yerevan has been stressed.

The Russian side drew the attention to the efforts taken by the OSCE Minsk Group Co0Chairs, including the joint statement of presidents of Russia, US and France,” the statement reads.

It should be noted that earlier today, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan commented on today’s joint statement by the presidents and said that for reaching lasting peace “Armenia should leave the occupied territories.”

“Taking into consideration the fact that Russia, US and France have been ignoring this problem for almost 30 years, the attempts at achieving truce are unacceptable,” said the Turkish President.
