Yerevan/Mediamax/. Armenian National Assembly has approved the amendments to the Law on the structure and activity of the government at the first reading today, with 71 MPs voting in favor and 40 against the draft.
Opposition parties Bright Armenia and Prosperous Armenia announced earlier they would vote against the proposed amendments.
The amendments reduce the number of ministries from 17 to 12 and the number of Deputy Prime Ministers from 3 to 2 by abolishing the position of First Deputy Prime Minister.
The 12 ministries are as follows:
- Ministry of Foreign Affairs,
- Ministry of Defense,
- Ministry of Emergency Situations,
- Ministry of Justice,
- Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs,
- Ministry of Education, Science and Culture,
- Ministry of Nature Protection,
- Ministry of Health,
- Ministry of Finance,
- Ministry of Economy,
- Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure,
- Ministry of High Technology Industry.
