Yerevan /Mediamax/. President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan has invited Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili to visit Yerevan on April 24, 2015, to take part in the commemoration of the Armenian Genocide martyrs.
Georgian PM’s Armenian counterpart Hovik Abrahamyan handed the invitation over to Irakli Garibashvili on December 11 on his official visit to Tbilisi.
During a private meeting the PMs discussed new programs to increase the trade turnover and ways to stir up the activities of the bilateral intergovernmental committee.
The parties highlighted ongoing works aimed at the construction and modernization of Bagratashen, Bavra and Gogavan border checkpoints as well as the construction of “Friendship” new bridge in Bagratashen-Sadakhlo border checkpoint. The Armenian PM attached great importance to the smooth work of Upper Lars border checkpoint on Georgian-Russian border.
The PMs assigned the leaders of relevant bodies to discuss options of resumption of Yerevan-Tbilisi and Yerevan-Batumi regular flights.
Hovik Abrahamyan noted that Armenia will soon join the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), yet, Armenia will actively cooperate with the EU.
Georgian PM Irakli Garibashvili’s said after the talks:
“Although Armenia will be EEU member state starting from January, and Georgia has signed the EU Association Agreement, it will not affect our ties with Armenia; on the contrary, we will apply it for the benefit of our countries”.
