Yerevan /Mediamax/. Presidents of Russia, U.S. and France made a joint statement on Nagorno Karabakh conflict today noting that “restarting military actions will have catastrophic outcomes for the people of the region and will entail casualties, further demolitions, growth of number of refugees and huge financial expenses”.
“We will keep supporting the sides of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict in reaching stable and peaceful settlement. Unfortunately, the sides kept striving to get one-sided benefits instead of trying to find a solution based on the mutual interests during the negotiation process.
As before, we are firmly convinced the provisions contained in the statements of our countries made over the past 4 years should be the basis for fair and stable settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict. These provisions should be considered as a whole as any attempt to give preference to one of them against others rules out the possibility of making a balanced decision.
We confirm that only the settlement through negotiations will lead to peace, stability and reconciliation, opening opportunities for regional development and cooperation. Use of military force which resulted in the current situation of confrontation and instability won’t settle the conflict. Restarting military actions will have catastrophic outcomes for the people of the region and entail casualties, further demolitions, growth of number of refugees and huge financial expenses. We are determined to urge the leaders of all the sides to once more confirm their commitment to Helsinki Principles, principle of non-use of force or threat of using force, territorial integrity, equal rights and people’s right for self-determination. We also call on them with an urgent request to refrain from any actions or statements which may aggravate the tension in the region and entail escalation of the conflict. The leaders should prepare their peoples for peace but not war.
Our countries are ready to support the sides but only they are responsible for stopping the conflict. We are deeply convinced that the further delay of reaching a balanced framework agreement leading to comprehensive peaceful settlement is unacceptable and urge the Azerbaijani and Armenian leaders to concentrate on the settlement of the issues which are still unsolved with renewed energy”, the joint statement of Vladimir Putin, Barack Obama and Francois Hollande made on the G8 Summit reads this.
