Yerevan /Mediamax/. The United Nations Security Council discussed the need to provide control over the ceasefire regime in Nagorno Karabakh.
Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya said this following a closed meeting on Nagorno-Karabakh, TASS reports.
“Now it is necessary to ensure the implementation of the ceasefire, this is the most urgent issue. Relevant agreement was reached, but it was not followed. The main question remains how to ensure control over its implementation. This issue was discussed during consultations, and the Security Council was quite unanimous in its approaches,” the diplomat said.
He explained that in order to send a UN observation mission to the region “special mandate of the Security Council would be required.” “It is not a quick process,” Nebenzya noted.
He did not rule out that the OSCE Mission may be engaged in observation. “We are still discussing who will be there and in what capacity,” Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN said.
