Yerevan /Mediamax/. Armenian President Armen Sarkissian has commented on Turkey’s claims that Armenia is targeting international oil and gas pipelines in Azerbaijan.

“If the Armenians wanted to hit the oil pipeline from Baku to Ceyhan, why didn’t they do it 20 years ago, when it was under construction? One or two strikes and the pipeline would never be there. By firing 20 years ago, Armenians would have prevented Azerbaijan from selling billions of dollars’ worth of oil to the international community through Turkey and using that money to strengthen the Azerbaijani army, buy weapons from around the world and now shoot at Armenians,” he said in the interview to Al Arabiya TV Channel.

“Where is the logic in this claim? If we wanted to shoot at the pipeline, we would have done it 20 years ago. Turkey may rush to declare that there are PKK militants or that Armenians want to strike the pipelines. These are just excuses to secure Turkey’s strong presence in Azerbaijan,” noted the President.
