Yerevan/Mediamax/. World Chess Champion Garry Kasparov believes that Ex-President of USSR Mikhail Gorbachev consciously did not take up steps in order to withstand Armenian pogroms in Baku in 1990.
Mediamax reports that Garry Kasparov said this on air of “Echo of Moscow” Radio Station, discussing with its Editor in Chief Aleksey Venediktov Mikhail Gorbachev’s role in history.
“After the pogroms and engagement of troops, which already were of no use to be engaged, since full cleansing had been carried out, Yakovlev [member of the Political Bureau – Mediamax] organized a meeting for me with Gorbachev. I told him how people were killed. The only thing that Gorbachev was concerned about was who would be appointed first secretary of the Central Committee of Azerbaijan, Mutalibov or Hasanov. This was the only issue that concerned him”, Garry Kasparov stated.
He also noted that “Mutalibov gained the power”, “Polyanichko was sent there with the Soviet troops, “Koltso” [“Ring”] operation took place in Karabakh”.
