Armenia does not back UN General Assembly’s resolution

Yerevan /Mediamax/. At its special session on March 2 the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution condemning Russia’s operation in Ukraine.

TASS reports that 141 countries voted in favor of the resolution, 5 – Belarus, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Eritrea, Russia and Syria – voted against and 35 abstained, among which Armenian alongside with China, India, Iran.

 

Azerbaijan did not participate in the voting.

 

Of the former Soviet republics the resolution was backed by Ukraine, Georgia, Moldova, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.

 

The resolution condemns Russia’s special military operation, demands immediate cessation of military actions and fixes the decision to improve the deterrent forces.

 

The resolutions adopted by the UN General Assembly are not binding.
