Yerevan /Mediamax/. Vice speaker of Armenian parliament, acting speaker Hakob Arshakyan stated today that "non-recognition of the Armenian Genocide and its denial lead to new genocides and wars.”

Speaking at the second meeting of the EU-Armenia Parliamentary Partnership Committee, he reminded that a resolution-report on Turkey was approved at the plenary session of the European Parliament on May 19, 2021 in which the European Union reaffirmed its call to recognize the Armenian Genocide.

“Turkey is also urged to refrain from any kind of anti-Armenian propaganda and hate speech and to fully respect the commitment to protect Armenian culture. The report also makes several references to Turkey’s negative role in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. In the reports, the EU reaffirms its call to recognize the Armenian Genocide. Unfortunately, the non-recognition of the Armenian Genocide and the denial of the genocide lead to new genocides and wars,” Hakob Arshakyan said.

He stressed that “Armenia attaches great significance to having normal relations with neighboring states.”

“We support and strive to establish relations in the region based on open borders and partnership, always ready for a healthy and realistic dialogue,” Arshakyan said.

He informed that the second meeting of the Armenian and Turkish envoys will take place in Vienna today.

“We are hopeful that Turkey will reconsider its closed border policy towards independent Armenia since 1993,” Hakob Arshakyan said.
