Yerevan /Mediamax/. U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan and Spokesperson and Chief Advisor to the President of Turkey Ibrahim Kalin discussed the normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations.

NSC Spokesperson Emily Horne reported that during the phone conversation they “discussed regional issues, including efforts by Turkey and Armenia to normalize relations.”

The main topic of the conversation was Ukraine. Emily Horne said “they underscored their shared commitment to both ongoing diplomacy and joint efforts to deter further Russian aggression against Ukraine.”

The phone conversation took place ahead of the visit of Turkish president to Ukraine.

Mediamax notes that Jake Sullivan and Ibrahim Kalin discussed the Armenian-Turkish relations during the phone conversation on January 10.

The US NSC statement about the January 10 conversation said that Sullivan and Kalin “agreed on the importance of working toward normalization of the situation in Caucasus.”

The Turkish side though reported that the officials “discussed the process of normalization of relations between Turkey and Armenia and contribution to the establishment of lasting peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan.”
