Yerevan /Mediamax/. Spokesperson of the Russian Foreign Affairs Ministry Maria Zakharova commented on the recent statement of the President of Turkey who said that the prospect of a Russian invasion of Ukraine is not realistic.

Erdogan also stated that “Ukraine is a strong country and for Russia to take that step, it would need to revise the situation in the whole world and its own.”

Commenting on the statement at the briefing Maria Zakharova said:

“It is somehow strange to comment on the statements of a representative of another state who is talking about our plans. All we hear is how representatives of not our country are speaking about our plans. I think that it is necessary to hear what Russia says itself. Russia spoke on this matter clearly and explicitly. Therefore, it is better to ask Russia about its plans. Why should we comment on different statements of people who are not implementing Russia’s policy, do not belong to our state service?

We understand very well that Turkey and Ukraine have and develop bilateral relations. In my opinion, it is more important to talk about what was done in this context. If Turkey wants to promote the development of Ukraine as a state, their political institutions, conflict resolution, then it is better to use their friendly ties with this country in order to encourage this state to fulfill its international obligations in the form of the Minsk “Package of Measures,” which is clearly aimed to improve the situation in Ukraine”.
