Yerevan /Mediamax/. The official representative of the Russian Foreign Affairs Ministry Maria Zakharova stated that Russia is not involved in the dialogue of the representatives of Armenia and Turkey.

Zakharova stated about it at a briefing in Moscow, commenting on the upcoming first meeting of special envoys of Armenia and Turkey in Moscow on January 14.

“This is a dialogue between two countries. We are not included in this format. We have repeatedly expressed our principled position in support of the settlement of bilateral relations, building a dialogue and normalizing contacts. We have contributed to it in practice,” Zakharova said.

On November 25, 2021, Maria Zakharova stated that Russia had received a request from Armenia to broker in normalization of relations with Turkey and was ready to provide such assistance.

“I can confirm that Armenia has applied for assistance in mediation between Yerevan and Ankara. Russia is interested in it and made efforts to normalize the Armenian-Turkish relations, our country is ready to further contribute to it in every possible way,” Zakharova had said.

In September 2021, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry reminded that Russia had always advocated the improvement of relations between Armenia and Turkey and had taken an active part in this process.

“We promoted the signing of protocols in Zurich in 2009 which supposed stage-by-stage improvement of relations between Armenia and Turkey without any pre-conditions. Russia not only played the role of a mediator but an effective role which resulted in positive outcome of that meeting. Sadly, the initiatives reached with Russia’s mediation were not realized by the sides. But it was already the wish of each of the states,” she had said.
