Yerevan /Mediamax/. Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Alexei Overchuk stated today in Baku that the status of observer in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) "promises Azerbaijan more benefits in terms of awareness of the activities of the organization.”
TASS reports that Overchuk, who is participating in the “Current State and Perspectives of Russian-Azerbaijani Economic Relations in the Context of Integration Processes” conference said:
“The status of observer enables the country to be more aware of what is going on in the EAEU. Very few people in Azerbaijan know about the EAEU. According to the data voiced today, approximately 30-40% of the population do not know what it is at all. This is the reason why there is a need to raise this level of awareness, and the form of such work also includes getting the status of observer.”
He noted that within the framework of the status, the observer country can participate in the activities of the working bodies of the EAEU, receive all the documentation, see how the organization is working from the inside.
On December 10, the honorary president of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council, first president of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev stated that Azerbaijan could receive the status of observer in the Eurasian Economic Union.
