Yerevan /Mediamax/. Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu has stated today that Russia is enhancing the combat capacity of the Southern Military District "due to NATO’s attempts to counteract normalization of the situation in a number of countries in South Caucasus and Middle East.”
“The state of affairs is unstable in a number of countries in South Caucasus and Middle East. NATO’s attempts to counteract normalization of the situation force us to take corresponding measures of strategic deterrence and enhance the combat capacity of the Southern military district,” Shoigu said at the meeting of the Collegium of the Russian Ministry of Defense.
TASS reports that according to the Minister, “the continuous refurbishment of the district is underway.”
“In 2020, our troops received over 3,200 pieces of modern arms and military equipment, and their share in military units made 70%,” added Shoigu.
