Yerevan/Mediamax/. U.S. President Donald Trump has nominated former Ambassador to Armenia Richard Mills to be Deputy Representative of the United States to the United Nations.
If this nomination is approved by the U.S. Congress, Richard Mills will also serve as the Deputy Representative to the UN Security Council.
Richard Mills currently serves as Charge d’Affaires ad interim of the U.S. Embassy in Canada.
Before his tenure in Armenia, Ambassador Mills held various positions in U.S. embassies in Lebanon, Malta, Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.
It is not the first time former U.S. ambassadors to Armenia take important positions.
In particular, John Heffern, who served as Ambassador to Armenia in 2011-2014, later worked as U.S. Principal Assistant and acting Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs.
Marie Yovanovitch, who served as U.S. Ambassador to Armenia before John Heffern, found herself involved in a scandal in 2019 as she had to testify before the U.S. Congress about certain episodes from her work as Ambassador to Ukraine.
