Yerevan /Mediamax/. Information and Press Department of Russian MFA criticized the EU’s reaction to the events related to Yerevan standoff.

“We carefully read the statement of the EU Delegation to Armenia, adopted in agreement with the EU Members States’ Heads of Mission in Armenia. Surprisingly, that document did not include a direct and clear condemnation of the crimes - armed attack on a police station, murder of the police officer, hostage taking. Instead, the statement stresses demands to the authorities to “observe the proportionality” and carry out “investigation of alleged wrongdoing by the police”. It is difficult to shake off the feeling that the EU officials are evidently playing along with those powers in Armenia, which wish to “disturb” the internal political situation,” reads the comment of the Information and Press Department of Russian MFA.

Mediamax finds it worth noticing that the EU Delegation to Armenia, in agreement with the EU Members States’ Heads of Mission in Armenia, stated that the use of force to achieve political change “is unacceptable” in the statement adopted on July 21. The statement also read that demonstrators need to refrain from violence in the exercise of their civil rights.
