Yerevan /Mediamax/. Armenian delegation responded to the misinformation disseminated by the Azerbaijani media these days during the session of UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Preservation of the Intangible Cultural Heritage held in Windhoek, capital of Namibia, on November 30 -December 4.
“Some of these false information include that UNESCO supposedly refused to acknowledge the dance ''kochari'' to be of Armenian origin, Azerbaijani delegation speech that did not happen during the committee session, report adoption of political nature that has nothing to do with UNESCO functions”, the Armenian Foreign Ministry press service reports.
The Armenian representative called everyone’s attention once again to the fact that Azerbaijan tries to politicize this platform, which is not acceptable.
UNESCO Secretariat was urged to pursue and respond to speculation of the organization’s name and the spread of fraud by Azerbaijan.
In fact, during this session of the UNESCO Committee, the discussions confirmed that the traditional ''kochari'', as an expression of national identity, is common in Armenia and the Diaspora. Armenia will submit a revised application to the Committee for further consideration.
