Yerevan /Mediamax/. Russian President Vladimir Putin has today stated that downing of Su-24 Russian military airplane was "a stab in the back by accomplices of terrorists”.

Vladimir Putin said this during his meeting with the King of Jordan Abdullah the Second in Sochi, the Russian media outlets report.

“Our airplane was shot down by Turkish F-16 fighter in the territory of Syria. The plane fell in Syria’s territory, 4 km away from the Turkish border. The aircraft was on the height of 6000m when it was shot down. In any case, our pilots and plane didn’t pose a threat to Republic of Turkey”, said the Russian President.

Vladimir Putin has stressed that instead of establishing necessary ties with Russia, the Turkish side turned to its NATO partners to discuss the incident.

“Of course, we will thoroughly investigate what happened. Today’s tragic events will have serious consequences in Russia-Turkey relations”, said the Russian President.
