Yerevan. Mediamax. The German Bundestag put off the discussion on the recognition of the Armenain Genocide till April 30.
After around two-hour discussions at the parliament, President of the Bundestag Norbert Lammert said that “what happened to Armenians during WWI was genocide” and “there cannot be real peace if the justice has not been restored for the generations of the victims.”
He stressed that Germany has its own portion of guilt.
Chancellor Angela Merkel also took part in the meeting of Bundestag.
On April 23, President of Germany Joachim Gauck called the mass killings of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire 100 years ago “genocide,” and earlier the representatives of Bundestag parties spoke for calling the atrocities against Armenians in the Ottoman Empire “genocide.”
