Yerevan /Mediamax/. Former Defense Minister of Armenia Davit Tonoyan has stated today that he is ready to take his share of responsibility.
Mediamax presents Davit Tonoyan’s message in full.
“Dear compatriots, comrades-in-arms,
After decades of service in the Ministry of Defense and the executive branch, today I am resigning from the state governance system.
I sincerely believe that all the ideas that have come to life as a result of honest and dedicated work of my fellow servicemen during my tenure have had a modest contribution to the development and improvement of our country’s defense system. However, any summary of my work is inappropriate today, because that summary inadvertently became the second Artsakh war. Am I satisfied with my work during the war and in the period leading to it? I think some matters on the agenda that I did not manage to implement need to be reconsidered, and in this regard, I am ready to bear my share of responsibility.
I assure you that the entire staff of the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces has been guided by the principle of duty before the homeland and we spared no effort to achieve victory, always doing more than the duty required. I would like to express my special thanks and respect to these people. We have worked tirelessly, often 24 hours a day, and not just during this war.
I consider it an honor to have had the opportunity to be a part for many years of this dedicated team, which will serve the homeland for a long time to come. My conviction is the same: the Armenian army is strong and will become stronger.
It is twice as difficult for me to resign at the moment, as I am not in the habit of taking the easy and accepted path to avoid getting into a difficult situation, if it is serving or not serving the country and the people on the scales. I was guided by the same principle in the spring of 2018. However, current situation needs to be eased. I want my departure to be perceived in that context.
I bow to the memory of our fallen friends and their relatives, and I would like to apologize to the people whose hopes were not fully justified. Nevertheless, I do not consider my service to the people over.”
